A message from our board of directors

Welcome

Welcome to Baltimore Behavioral Health’s (BBH) website.  This site was created to assist you in finding information about BBH, including our mission, the services we provide, accreditation and licensing, career opportunities in our clinical and non-clinical departments, and directions to help you find us.

Mission

The BBH Board shares a deep commitment to the mission and services provided to the community based upon our personal experiences, career achievements & contributions to the treatment community, chosen fields of study, and the desire to improve the health and well-being of those in our community who are suffering.  Impressively, the Board’s cumulative years of service to the treatment field numbers nearly two centuries.

Credentials

As a leading provider of mental health and substance abuse services to patients in Baltimore City and the surrounding metropolitan area, the Board works hard every day to ensure that a full continuum of care is offered, and to help our patients turn their lives around in a caring atmosphere focused on providing high quality of care.  The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) performs the most rigorous reviews of healthcare providers in the country to assess the quality of care provided.  BBH is accredited by the Joint Commission, as well as being licensed by the State of Maryland.

Patient Care

We strongly believe in the concept of a structured, therapeutic community and are committed to providing those in the greatest need with supportive shelter, meals and somatic care, pro bono.  After more than a decade of service in Baltimore, BBH has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in these forms of care to our neediest patients.  Many patients have shared heartwarming testimonials with the Board about the life-saving nature of the work that BBH is doing in their lives and in the treatment community.  Some patients who have successfully completed treatment have joined BBH as both productive community members and staff members.

Community Vision

The Board’s commitment to the community includes a multi-faceted vision of working together to improve the quality of life for patients, staff and neighbors while also contributing to professional development on both an individual and organizational level.

We strive to hire staff from the local community, with the largest proportion of BBH’s staff “family” living in Baltimore City, and with the greatest percentage of those staff members residing in the zip codes including and surrounding BBH.  Membership in neighborhood organizations, sponsorship of local events, participation in anti-crime walks, coat & holiday toy drives for the needy, neighborhood clean-up days, car washes and sharing BBH’s green space for multi-purpose uses by the community are but a few of the ways that we strive to realize this vision at the grassroots level, on a daily basis.  We also make the effort to patronize neighboring vendors and businesses in order to strengthen the vibrant Southwest Baltimore community to which we are so committed.

BBH supports other not-for-profit association endeavors (see member organizations) as we work together toward common goals.  In addition, BBH is committed to mentoring and providing supervision to interns and graduate students.

Staff Benefits

The Board believes in taking a leadership role at the corporate level in ensuring that all staff are embraced and appreciated for the hard work they perform each day, which has translated into eliminating the concept of the minimum wage in favor of providing a living wage, and ensuring that health insurance is offered to all full-time employees.  Mentoring and tuition reimbursement for continuing education are available.  Family-friendly work structure, wellness programs and on-going recovery are embraced.
